Box Score

SEAHAWK BASEBALL RESULTS
Salve Regina 7, Framingham State 4
Reynolds Field - Newport, R.I.
Wednesday, March 29, 2017

Summary
NEWPORT, R.I. - Nationally-ranked Salve Regina University baseball (ABCA - No. 26) improved to 11-2 on the season with a 7-4 non-league victory over visiting Framingham State University today at Reynolds Field. The Rams record evens at 8-8 overall.

Series and Streaks
Salve Regina has now won six straight this season, fourth in a row at home, and fourth straight in the all-time series with Framingham State. The Rams still hold an 8-6 edge in the all-time results, but their mini two-game win streak over Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponents comes to an end; Framingham recently defeated CCC members Roger Williams and Nichols. In Florida, Framingham State had defeated former No. 21 Rowan, which is responsible for one of the two Salve Regina losses in 2017.

Three Seahawk Stars of the Game

  1. Freshman outfielder Dylan Ketch (Clinton, Conn.) banged out two hits, scored two runs, and drove in two runs, both RBI coming on a double to put Salve Regina ahead 6-4 in the bottom of the seventh.
  2. Junior outfielder/infielder John Militano (Miller Place, N.Y.) played centerfield and manned the leadoff spot in the Seahawk batting order with three hits in five at bats, an RBI double, and a run scored.
  3. Sophomore infielder Riley Fusaro (Nantucket, Mass.) played flawless second base and picked up two base hits including a double.

Turning Point
Salve Regina brought nine batters to the plate in the bottom of the seventh and plated three runs to break a 4-4 deadlock. Hunter Sleeper (Arlington, Mass.) led off with a walk and Militano followed with a single up the middle. After Sam Brito (Lincoln, R.I.) sacrificed the runners to third and second, respectively, the Rams elected to intentionally walk Alex Perry (No. Attleboro, Mass.) to face Ketch with the bases loaded. Ketch unloaded on the first pitch from Mike Andrews (Stoneham, Mass.) for a two-run double.

Quick Hits

  • Ketch, a late addition to the lineup, has appeared in all 13 games for the Seahawks and hit safely in all but one.
  • Will Crowther (East Sandwich, Mass.) worked four innings in his second collegiate start; junior Kyle Lefelar (Potomac, Md.) picked up the victory (1-0) in relief while working three innings.
  • Junior Billy Humes (East Rockaway, N.Y.) pitched the final two innings without allowing a run for the save. He struck out four Rams, three looking.
  • Three different pitchers have earned saves for Salve Regina in 2017 - Humes, junior Jonathan Lynch (Cumberland, R.I.), and senior Frank Lemieux (Marshfield, Mass.).
  • Rams starter Kyle Hodgson (Berkley, Mass.) went five and two-thirds innings allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out seven and walking none.
  • Andrews took the loss to fall to 0-1 on the season.
