LAST TIME OUT
BIDDEFORD, Maine - Salve Regina ran to a 33-10 victory over the University of New England on a wet and windy day at UNE Blue Storm Stadium on Saturday. Offense was tough to come by for each team early and the Nor'easters held Salve Regina to three-and-out on the first three drives of the game. The Seahawks scored a touchdown just as time expired in the first quarter as Ronnie Martin rushed in for his first of three scores. Martin extended the lead to 14-6 with 9:03 to play in the second with a five-yard touchdown. UNE used the ground game to get deep in Salve Regina territory next time out, but were stalled on fourth down. Joey Mauriello took the next play in from 77 yards out for the Seahawks as the visitors went into the half ahead 21-6. Martin took the opening play of the second half in for a 60-yard touchdown. Mauriello extended the Seahawk lead to 33-6 with a touchdown with 34 seconds left in the third. The Seahawks did most of their damage on the ground with 311 yards on the day. Mauriello had 177, while Martin added 144.

NICHOLS NEWS
- LAST TIME OUT FOR NICHOLS: Nichols College football team rushed for 189 yards in a 49-14 loss to Western New England University Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at a rainy Vendetti Field. Jacob Duffrene rushed for 123 yards and one score – a 35-yard scamper in the first quarter – while Jake Wood caught seven passes for 40 yards and one touchdown. Michael Pina completed 11-of-26 pass attempts for 78 yards and one score, and was sacked three times. The Bison committed three turnovers in plus territory – including one inside the red zone. Western New England outscored the Bison 35-0 in the second half and outgained them 380-97 over the final 30 minutes. Charles Wade and Christopher Lawrence each registered a sack for Nichols.
- SERIES FROM A BISON PERSPECTIVE: The nine Bison wins in the series includes the first-ever meeting (20-18 in 1993) and the only overtime game in the history of Salve Regina football (24-21 in 2000). Nichols started a five-game win streak (2000-2004) with that OT triumph. In the last eight meetings, the Bison have been blanked twice (6-0 in 2010, and 32-0 in 2013) and have been outscored, 300-71.
- WEEKLY HONORS: Three Bison have garnered weekly honors from the Commonwealth Coast Conference during 2018. Jared Abbruzzese (Week 2 - Sept. 10) and McCoy Scott (Week 7 - Oct. 15) earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Jake Wood (Week 1 - Sept. 4) became the first Nichols student-athlete to return a pair of kickoffs for touchdowns (90 and 84 yards) in a season-opening loss to Westfield State.
- CLOSE TO HOME: The lone Bison road win in 2018 was at nearby Becker, 23-15, on Oct. 13.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Salve Regina leads the all-time series, 16-9, which includes a 5-3 mark at Toppa Field. The Seahawks have won the last eight consecutively. The eight-game streak began with a modest 6-0 win on Nov. 6, 2010; each of the seven victories since then the Seahawks have scored at least 32 points, including last season's 45-10 triumph in Dudley. The Seahawks forced six turnovers to earn the victory. Danny McDermott threw for 151 yards and three scores. James Dawson picked up 151 rushing yards and scored three times while Brendan Nunes caught two touchdown passes.

Salve Regina plays at Endicott College to close out the regular season (1 p.m.). Nichols finishes at home in Dudley, Mass., against the Colonels of Curry College.
