Maybach improves to 10-0 all-time as collegiate pitcher

Box Score

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - Salve Regina University got seven shutout innings from sophomore lefty starting pitcher Patrick Maybach (Saunderstown, R.I.) in non-conference action at the New England Baseball Complex as the Seahawks defeated the Rams of Framingham State University, 6-0, with a five-run ninth inning.

With the win, the Seahawks, who were playing their season opener, are now 1-0, while the Rams are now 0-2.

The game was scoreless through five innings as Framingham junior Kyle Hodgson (Berkley, Mass.) battled Maybach in a pitcher's duel with Maybach surrendering just one hit and Hodgson allowing only two.

Maybach ended up earning the victory going seven scoreless innings and allowing just three hits with 15 strikeouts and three walks.

Despite the strong start, Hodgson took the loss going 8.2 innings and allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits with three strikeouts and four walks.

The Seahawks had a chance in the top of the sixth to break the deadlock as they got back to back singles from Anthony Cieszko (Woodcliff Lake, NJ) and John Militano (Miller Place, NY). However, the Rams would turn a triple play on a fly ball to center to end the inning and keep the game scoreless through six.

Salve Regina got on the board off Hodgson in the top of the seventh. Zack Smith (New Canaan, Conn.) singled and Alex Perry (North Attleboro, Mass.) drew a walk. After an out, a walk loaded the bases for the Seahawks and sophomore Dylan Ketch (Clinton, Conn.) delivered an RBI single to center.

Salve Regina tacked on five runs in the top of the ninth to reach the final margin. Cieszko plated two runs on a single to left and Colton Eremian (Boca Raton, Fla.) plated one on a single to center.

Junior Aaron Williams (Brockton, Mass.) paced the Rams offense going three-for-four at the plate with three stolen bases.

The Rams are back in action Wednesday at the NEBC when they host Plymouth State University in a non-conference game at 3:30 p.m., while the Seahawks are back in action next week at the RussMatt Invitational.
