Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 5, 2021) – The Western New England University men's lacrosse team defeated Salve Regina University, 15-10, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) semifinals on Wednesday evening at Golden Bear Stadium.
Top Performers
Graduate Student Nick Gamba led the Golden Bears with five goals and three assists. Senior Brendan Lyons had three goals and one assist while sophomore Dylan Hanley had two goals and three assists.
Ryan Reilly and Liam Cooney each scored three goals for the Seahawks, while Cooney also chipped in one assist.
Game Review
Salve Regina took an early 1-0 lead after an unassisted goal from Ethan Robson. Western New England answered with goals from Lyons and junior Mike Bannon to take a 2-1 lead going into the second quarter. Senior Matt Greer scored the first goal in the second quarter to extend the lead to 3-1. Cooney scored at 8:55 mark to cut into the lead before Gamba scored two goals to make it 5-2. After two goals from the Seahawks, senior Jared Newall scored a man-up goal with just over a minute remaining to give the Golden Bears a 6-4 lead going into the second half.
It was a high scoring third frame, as Western New England outscored Salve Regina 6-5. Gamba and Hanley each scored within the first few minutes before the Seahawks grabbed another two goals. Western New England scored the next four as sophomore Ben Kolb, Hanley, senior Conor Tracy, and Lyons each scored. The Golden Bears took a 12-9 lead into the final quarter of action. Out of the four goals scored in the fourth quarter, the first three came from Western New England, including two more from Gamba to cap off his five goal night.

Western New England (10-1) will travel to Endicott on Saturday for the CCC Championship. Salve Regina (4-5) sees its 2021 season come to a close.
