MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - The University of New England field hockey defeated Salve Regina University 5-1 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday.

- UNE junior Lindsay Bruns (Belfast, Maine) score twice in the first quarter to put the Nor'easters on top.
- UNE junior Lindsay Pych (West Milford, N.J.) stopped all four shots she faced in just over 39 minutes of action to improve to 3-3 in net.
- Salve Regina sophomore Shannon Kennedy (Royersford, Pa.) scored her first career goal in the 56th to spoil the shutout for UNE.
Turning Point
The Seahawks started the game strong, recording the first shots on net and a corner in the opening minutes, but the Nor'easters found their rhythm and scored twice in the late stages of the first quarter to take the lead. Both goals came courtesy of Bruns who was able to trickle in a shot in the 11th to open the scoring, then with her back to the cage finessed a backhand around the Seahawks netminder in the 14th for what proved the be the game-winner.

- Madi Robito (Pelham, N.H.) scored in the second, while Haylee Angster (Poquonson, Va.) and Bailey Lynch (Upton, Mass.) each scored in the third to round out the Nor'easters scoring.
- UNE held a 19-13 edge in shots.
- Olivia Butler (Sandy Hook, Conn.) made six saves in the loss to fall to 5-1 while Bryn Protheroe (Glastonbury, Conn.) stopped all four of the shots she saw in just under 21 minutes of action in the second half.
- The Seahawks had a narrow 10-9 edge in corners.
