Perachi dominates again; Seahawks win Florida opener, 9-0

Box Score

AUBURNDALE, Fla. (March 11, 2022) - Salve Regina University junior lefty Dominic Perachi (Washington Depot, Conn.) dominated once again in his second start of 2022 with 13 strikeouts in six innings pitched, allowed just a leadoff dribbler up the first base line that intended to spin foul but stayed fair, as the Seahawks defeated the Rams of Farmingdale State University, 9-0, in RussMatt Invitational action at Field #7 in the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.

Perachi followed up his national pitcher of the week honors - d3baseball.com and NCBWA - where he had struck out 16 Wildcats in seven innings of one-hit ball, again just an infield single.

The Seahawk offense posted three in the third, four in the fifth, and single runs in the seventh and eighth. Extra bases were the norm until the final frame. Matt D'Amato (Midland Park, N.Y.), Tyler Cannoe (Schenectady, N.Y.), Dylan Ketch (Clinton, Conn.), Michael Breen (Auburn, Mass.) each belted a double while Ketch also had a run-scoring triple. The Seahawks (3-1) also benefitted from Ram control issues to draw eight bases on balls and score a run on a wild pitch.

Dom Ramous (Fairhaven, Mass.) delivered a two-out, pinch-hit single in the eighth to drive in Brandon Grover (Ashland, Mass.) with the game's final run.

Nicolas Santo (Pompano Beach, Fla.)Daniel Manente (Somers, Conn.), and Will Tierney (Sparta, N.J.) pitched the final three frames without allowing a hit.

Salve Regina also stole seven bases, two by D'Amato who reached base four times at the leadoff spot. The Seahawks return to Lake Myrtle Sports Complex on Saturday with an earlier start (11:30 a.m.) hoping to avoid a foul weather forecast for the area in the afternoon. Farmingdale State (2-4), which had lost 10-8 earlier in the day to Fontbonne, plays at Sanford Stadium against Western New England at 3 p.m.
