Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla.-- Salve's hot bats continued at the hands (and batting gloves) of Brandon Grover (Ashland, Mass.), Tyler Cannoe (Schenectady, N.Y.) and Matt D'Amato (Midland Park, N.J.), three hitters at the top of the Seahawks lineup who combined for nine hits, 17 total bases and six runs batted in. The Seahawks notched six runs through the first three innings as they have often found success with the bats early in games this season.
William Paterson trailed 6-3 going into the top-half of the seventh inning, where they saw the first two men get on base. A towering three-run shot would tie the game 6-6, but the Seahawks got that lead right back with an RBI-triple from Cannoe and an RBI-single from Grover to give them a two-run lead.
Entering the eighth, the Pioneers trailed by two and posted five runs to give themselves a three-run cushion. The Seahawks responded once again with a D'Amato RBI-single to bring Salve within two runs, and a Tyler Petrosino (Beverly, Mass.) double in the ninth brought Wil McCarthy (Pembroke, Mass.) across to make it a one-run game. The Seahawks came up just short in the end as freshman Shea Donovan (Milton, Mass.) hit a sharp liner directly at the Pioneer center fielder to end the game and leave Petrosino on second base.
Brayden Clark (Beverly, Mass.) may not have gotten into the win column following the loss, but what an outing it was for one of the Seahawks' top arms. Through six innings of work, Clark allowed three runs on five hits, fanning ten Pioneer hitters including a run of four straight as he struck out the side in the fourth. Holden Ferrari (Dover, Mass.) would take the loss.
The Seahawks (3-3, 0-0 CCC) get back under the sun on Tuesday to face future NEWMAC foe Springfield College (1-2-1) at 9:15 a.m.
