Homa and Siqueira go deep, Seahawks sweep rams for tenth straight win

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

NEWPORT, R.I. -- Another day at Reynolds, another win for Salve baseball as good pitching and better hitting propelled the Seahawks to two victories over the Suffolk Rams on Friday.

The Seahawks have won their tenth straight game, but that is an unrevealing statistic. The Seahawks currently hold an unbeaten streak of eighteen, as they tied Western New England 5-5 earlier on this season in a game that ended early due to weather-related reasons. Had the Seahawks recorded a win in that game that had gone to extra innings, the Seahawks would hold the longest win streak in the country with eighteen wins.\

Rams 1, Seahawks 9

The Seahawks started things off with a bang as they have done consistently all season in the first inning, and the man of the hour once again came to answer the call. Christian Homa (Fairfield, Conn.) took his conference-leading batting average into this one and wanted to increase it. He did, with a bomb to right center field to give Salve an early lead that the Seahawks would not lose. Plenty of Rams mistakes led to Seahawk runs throughout the game, as five of the Seahawks nine runs were considered unearned. Three RBIs from Homa and three runs scored apiece by Matt D'Amato (Midland Park, N.J.) and Brandon Grover (Ashland, Mass.) would contribute greatly to the Seahawks easy victory. Wil McCarthy (Pembroke, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the win.

Brayden Clark (Beverly, Mass.) started for Salve on the hill, and he was as commanding as he has been all year. Clark went the full seven frames, allowing one run on five hits, fanning five. Clark was excellent; the one blemish on his day were the dirt and sweat marks on the new white NOSOLO caps the Seahawks dawned on Friday in efforts to raise awareness about mental health battles in the Salve Regina community. Clark co-leads the CCC in wins (7) and tops the leaderboard in strikeouts (74).

Rams 0, Seahawks 7

A new face reached paydirt in the home run category on Friday as Dustin Siqueira (Trumbull, Conn.) launched his fourth career home run over the wall in left-center field in the fourth inning when the Seahawks already led 4-0. Evan O'Rourke (Arlington, Mass.) had a big hit in the first, a double to score two runs and put the Rams in the hole early. The Seahawks seven runs on just seven hits were enough in this one as the Rams defense committed two errors.

Graham Jeffries (Chelmsford, Mass.) got the nod for Salve in the backend of the doubleheader, and he continued his dominance he has had throughout the season. Jeffries pitched all seven innings, throwing a shutout and fanning eleven Ram batters, allowing just three batters to reach base all game. Jeffries is third in the conference in wins (6) and third in strikeouts (68).

The Seahawks (28-6-1, 10-2-1 CCC) visit Curry College on Tuesday for their final conference road game.
