Box Score 4 BEVERLY, Mass. - The Salve Regina University women's volleyball team took part in the Endicott Invitational this weekend, competing in four matches over two days. Senior Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.) was selected to the all-tournament team as the Seahawks went 0-4 while facing some solid competition against Plymouth State, Williams, UMass Boston, and Middlebury.
Barry had 30 kills over the four match stretch while also compiling an outstanding 27 total blocks for an average of 1.93 blocks per set. In addition, the senior captain led the Seahawks with a solid .365 attack percentage.
The Seahawks began the tournament with a 3-1 loss to Plymouth State on Friday. After dropping the first two sets by close scores of 25-19 and 25-22, the Seahawks fought back to take the third set 25-23. However, Plymouth State was able to regroup and take the fourth and final set by the score of 25-18. Clare Adams (New Concord, Ohio) stood out for Salve Regina, finishing the match with 13 kills and 13 digs, while Barry contributed 10 kills and a team-high eight blocks.
Salve Regina faced Williams in Friday's night cap, falling in straight sets by scores of 25-16, 25-17, 25-19. Freshman Dianna Tauro (Melrose, Mass.) had a team-high 15 digs in the loss, while Barry chipped-in with five kills and six blocks.
On Saturday, the Seahawks opened up against UMass Boston, losing 3-1. UMass Boston took the first two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-10 before the Seahawks rallied back for a 25-23 victory in the third set. Salve Regina was unable to carry the momentum into the fourth set, however, as UMass Boston closed out the match, 25-16. Barry had a very efficient match for the Seahawks, earning seven kills in just 10 attacks while also compiling eight solo blocks.
In the final match of the tournament, the Seahawks sqaured-off against Middlebury. The opening set was highly contested, but the Seahawks eventually fell by the score of 28-26. Middlebury went on to close out the match by taking the next two sets, 25-17 and 25-19. Freshman Taylor Violet (Tiverton, R.I.) dished-out a team-best 16 assists in the loss, while senior Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass.) added 14 digs.
The Seahawks will look to get back to their winning ways on Monday night (7 p.m.) when they host Rivier College at the Rodgers Recreation Center.
