NEWPORT, R.I.-- Salve Regina University men's ice hockey has been ranked No.14 by USCHO released on January 5, 2026.
The Seahawks currently sit at 13-2-0 as an independent team and went 1-1 last week at the Tampa College Hockey Invitational with a win against Tufts University and a loss to No.12 SUNY Geneseo.
The Seahawks beat the Jumbos 5-2 on Thursday, January 1.
Jack Arizo scored less than two minutes into the action and
Cody Plaza netted Salve Regina's third and fourth goals late in the third period, including one empty net goal, to secure the 5-2 verdict. Arizo tallied the game winning goal on the power play at the beginning of the third period and was named player of the game.
Against Geneseo the first period was scoreless and the Knights established a 2-0 lead in the later half of the second period. Salve Regina fought back when
Karsten Kruska got the Seahawks on the board with one minute into the third period.
Cody Plaza made it a tied game with his third goal in two days, after scoring twice in the Seahawks win over Tufts.
Grant Hineman put the Seahawks in the lead with a shot from the right point but in the final ten minutes of the game the Knights were able find the back of the net with several one timers, making it a 4-3 verdict in favor of Geneseo. Goalie
Selby Warren was named player of the game with 33 saves.
"Our players chose Salve Regina and last spring they doubled down on that decision by choosing to stay," commented head men's ice hockey coach
Jay Punsky '07. "Their commitment to this university and its hockey program has propelled us into the national conversation. I'm proud of what we have accomplished thus far and I know there is still a lot of fight left in this group.
Salve Regina will next face Manhattanville University on Tuesday, January 6, at 8 p.m. at Howard Rink in Middletown, R.I. Earlier this season the Seahawks bested the Valiants 6-2 on their home ice.
