Golden Bears win high-scoring game with Salve Regina, 23-15

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Senior midfielder Lindsey Fenton (Pelham, Mass.) scored seven goals and junior attacker Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, N.Y.) netted six goals to lead the Western New England College women's lacrosse team to a 23-15 victory over Salve Regina Tuesday afternoon.

 

The Golden Bears returned to the .500 mark at 6-6 and improved to 4-2 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC). The Seahawks drop to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the league.

 

This was a season high goal total for WNEC who previously scored 22 goals three times earlier this season.

 

Fenton also dished out three assists to complete a 10-point afternoon.

 

Freshman midfielder Megan Doyle (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) tallied four goals with an assist while junior defender Nicole Poli (Medfield, Mass.) and junior attacker Nicole Squadrito (Ellington, Conn.) each contributed two goals and an assist.

 

Junior goalie Marissa Bonitatibus (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) compiled 11 saves in a little more than 41 minutes of action. Junior goalie Erin Doherty (Westford, Mass.) stopped six shots.

 

Western New England College held a 14-7 lead at halftime.

 

Sophomore attacker Sarah Livingston (Westford, Mass.) led Salve Regina with five goals and an assist while senior attacker Sarah Baker (Summit, N.J.) had a nice outing with thee goals and five assists.
