Seahawks suffer 4-1 loss to Manhattanville

STAMFORD, Conn. – Four different Valiants scored as Manhattanville skated to a 4-1 win over Salve Regina's women's ice hockey team, Wednesday night.

After a scoreless opening period, Manhattanville struck first with two quick goals just before the eight-minute mark in the second. Senior Jessica Kehoe (Kemptville, Ontario) received the puck from classmate Katie Little (Victoria, British Columbia) behind the net and sent the puck past senior goalie Ali Muehlbronner (Glendside, Pa.).

Just 22 seconds after their first goal, the Valiants took a 2-0 lead as senior Sonia Occhionero (Montreal, Quebec) raced down the right wing to send the puck to sophomore Trenah Stauffer (Salmon, Idaho), who backhanded a shot into the goal.

Salve Regina took advantage of a costly turnover at center ice to cut the Valiant lead to 2-1. Junior Monika Borkowski (Ann Arbor, Mich.) sprinted with the puck down the right wing and tossed the puck towards the net, after Manhattanville goalie made the initial save, freshman Shelby Johnson (Sterling, Mass.) reached in on goal and poked the puck over the goal line.

Stauffer got in on the action once against after blasting a puck off the endboards behind the Seahawk net, which bounced right to Little. The senior shot the puck on goal with the rebound bounding right to senior Alyssa Taylor (Craik, Saskatchewan), who in turn lifted the puck over Muehlbronner to give the Valiants a 3-1 lead.

Manhattanville capped its scoring as Salve Regina pulled its goalie for a skater advantage in the final minute of action. Senior Mary Rose Morrison (Ridgefield, Conn.) dug the puck out from the boards and led a pass to Rachael Morrison (Ridgefield, Conn.) who sent it to Occhionero to send home in the empty net.

Salve Regina (13-9-0, 9-6-0 ECAC East) will continue its roadtrip up New England College and Castleton this weekend, before finishing off the year next Monday with a makeup game against Nichols.
