Box Score BEVERLY, Mass. - Freshman goalie Grace Haesche 9Warwick, R.I.) made a new career-best 23 saves in a 19-9 setback for the Salve Regina University women's lacrosse team versus Endicott College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play.
In a game in which the Seahawks were outshot 50-17, Haesche kept the Seahawks afloat by making a new career-best and season-high 23 saves. The 23 saves are the most by an opponent goalie versus the Gulls this season, tied for the most in the CCC this season (Madison Bruzzese vs Wheaton, Mar. 6), and the highest single-game total for saves by any goalie in CCC competition this year. Heasche's 52.1 save percentage leads the CCC as of April 15.
Nicole Smith (North Attleboro, Mass.) scored to end the first and begin the second quarter to give the Seahawks a 2-1 lead. The Gulls responded witha 6-1 run to take the lead, and closed the half on an 8-3 run.
The teams battled even in the third and the Gulls only lead narrowly 13-9 despite outshooting and outchancing the Seahawks thanks to the heroics of Grace Haesche. The Gulls finally broke through in the fourth quarter however and potted six unanswered goals to pull away and win 19-9 in what had been a hard fought and physical game.
Smith posted her sixth hat-trick of the year, totaling four goals to lead the Seahawks attack while Kiana Napolitano and Katy Garvin each scored five times to pace the Gulls offense.
Salve Regina (6-3, 3-2 CCC) travels to face Western New England on Tuesday, April 19, at 4 p.m.
