NEWPORT, R.I.-- The Salve Regina Athletics Director, Sean Sullivan, has named Meghan Malloy as head women's lacrosse coach.
"We are tremendously excited to welcome Coach Malloy to our department and the larger Salve community as our new head coach for Seahawk women's lacrosse," said Sullivan. "Meghan greatly impressed us with her inspiring leadership-building skills, commitment to holistic education, and thoughtful preparation in how to further build our program.
Malloy comes to Salve Regina after spending just under four years at Wheaton College as an assistant women's lacrosse coach and assistant athletics communications coordinator. At Wheaton Malloy assisted in managing and directing women's lacrosse athletes, took charge of administrative responsibilities such as recruiting, budgeting and alumni relations and managed team scheduling. In her athletics communications role, she was responsible for game operations, statistic keeping, writing press releases and managing social media.
"Meghan played a role in every facet of the Wheaton program, from identifying prospective student-athletes to helping devise tactical progressions for each season," said Wheaton head women's lacrosse coach Emily Kiablick. "Meghan's time at Wheaton allowed her to see the impact her recruiting and player development had on individuals and the program. She believes deeply in developing the whole person and her approach consistently reflects that. Meghan's experience and leadership will have a tremendous impact on the student-athlete experience at Salve Regina."
A 2016 graduate from Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire, Malloy was a four-year member of the women's lacrosse program and progressed to the NCAA postseason tournament twice.
"My passion for the sport of lacrosse is built on a foundation of over 15 years of hard work and dedication," said Malloy. "I come from a family of collegiate athletes that have used their student-athlete experience and evolved into strong successful coaches that has directly influenced my career path. I have also had the privilege of coaching under someone who is well respected and has helped mentor me in my development into a strong new head coach."
Additionally, Malloy has spent time coaching lacrosse at Lax Plus, a club providing experience for girls grades three through 12 and as a brand ambassador with the Boston Cannons Major League Lacrosse team. At Lax Plus She planned and carried out weekly training plans and successfully managed 18 athletes throughout five showcases, averaging four games per showcase. Malloy comes to Salve Regina excited to provide NEWMAC coaching experience with a passion to guide and mentor student-athletes.
"Salve Regina and Seahawk athletics' reputation, resources and recent move to the NEWMAC all attracted me to this opportunity," said Malloy. "As an experienced NEWMAC coach, my role as the head coach will be to help guide these student-athletes and develop them into players worthy of all-conference accolades. My main focus as the head coach will start by establishing the culture, building trust and developing leaders. These fundamental goals will help lead us into qualifying for NEWMAC playoffs."
Malloy will lead the program through their first year competing in the NEWMAC. With Malloy's guidance, Wheaton finished out the 2023 spring season 10-8 overall, going 5-4 in the conference with key wins over Clark University, Wellesley College, Mount Holyoke College, Springfield College and Emerson College.
"As this team begins formal play in the NEWMAC this spring, Meghan's most recent experience as a coach and recruiter in the conference will be of great benefit to our team and department," said Sullivan. "She knows the caliber of league competition, understands the tendencies of our new conference opponents, and has successfully recruited throughout the region and coached high quality student-athletes in this specific environment. All in all, coach Malloy will be a tremendous spark for us, and the Seahawk roster will continue to mature and develop thanks to her mentorship and teaching."
As the start of the season grows nearer, Malloy will be at the helm for the program's inaugural NEWMAC season. She will make an immediate impact on the women's lacrosse athletes to elevate the program for success in-conference.
