BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (Thursday, March 14, 2024)-- Seahawk women's lacrosse recorded another win, moving them to 5-1 in 2024, when the team succeeded 15-13 over Bridgewater State University on Thursday. Stella McCormack took the reins with four goals and three assists across the 60-minute contest. 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Salve Regina 15, Bridgewater State 13

Last matchup: Since the 2002-03 season Salve Regina is 3-13 against Bridgewater State. Prior to this afternoon's contest the most recent meeting was on March 1, 2023. The Bears finished above the Seahawks, 15-5. 

BREAKDOWN: 

• IH: Seahawks' Edie Threshie got the action going 40 seconds into the game, however early on Salve Regina and Bridgewater State acted and counteracted within one point of each other. Following the bear's 1-1 tying goal, Kayli Garcia scored with a one-player advantage. The Bears reacted, bring it to a tie once again at 2-2 with 4:07 remaining in the first quarter. Led by Edie Threshie, the Seahawks netted three unanswered goals in the first quarter and one to open the second period before the Bears snuck in any more. Bridgewater State's Erin McIntyre rallied, triggering three consecutive successes for the Bears in the second period, but the Seahawks led with Cameron Baston's final goal clocking in at 1:16 to go. Salve Regina still sat ahead 8-6 going into halftime. 
• IIH: Salve Regina took control of the third quarter, scoring five times in succession. Stella McCormack scored twice in the quarter. The team led 13-6 with 7:43 remaining in the third period. However, Bridgewater State staged a comeback, beginning with two free position shots to finish out the third quarter. The Bears kept closing the gap as the final 15 minutes of the day ticked down. After four Bridgewater State successes, making it a 14-10 game, Kayli Garcia sank a critical goal by snaking around from behind the net and scoring down low with a one-person advantage to break the Bears' run. Samantha Moleti further extended the Seahawks lead, and the team was able to hold off the Bears despite Bridgewater State scoring the final two goals of the day for a 15-13 final score. 

NOTEWORTHY:

• Stella McCormack recorded four goals.
• Edie Threshie and Samantha Moleti both netted three Seahawk goals. 
• Grace Haesche made 15 saves of 28 shots on goal. 
• The Bears outshot the Seahawks 31-28. 
• The Seahawks nabbed nine ground balls and won 19 to the Bears' 12 draw controls. 

ON THE HORIZON: 

On Saturday the Seahawks play in their first conference game as a member of the NEWMAC. Salve Regina will be on the road at 1 p.m. against the Wellesley College Blue.
